(Pierre) - A Minnesota man who works in Sioux Falls is the 93rd person to win a $100,000 Powerball prize sold in South Dakota. Kurt Bly of Hills, Minnesota, won by matching 5 numbers, but not the Powerball, in the Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 drawing.
Bly didn’t know he had won until he stopped Tuesday after work at the same convenience store where he’d purchased the “quick pick” ticket.
After checking his ticket, the clerk at George’s Food-N-Fuel on West Russell Street in Sioux Falls told Bly he’d won enough to need to go to the Lottery office to claim the prize. “I didn’t know what to think,” Bly said.
Bly thought at first he’d won $500, but he and the clerk checked the numbers and discovered he’d won $100,000. “I called my wife, and she said, ‘Yeah, whatever.’ I told her I really had won $100,000 and she screamed,” he said.
Powerball is played in 23 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
