Dean Stuart of Pierre on June 19, 2014 claimed his $6,001 Wild Card 2 prize from the June 14, 2014 drawing at the Pierre Lottery office.
Stuart matched five of five white ball numbers but missed the Wild Card to pick up the game's $6,000 second prize then matched one white ball number and the Wild Card on another play line of the same ticket to win an additional $1. His lucky ticket was purchased at Fresh Start at 218 W. Sioux Avenue in Pierre; the business will receive a $600 bonus for the sale. The store is a regular stop for Stuart.
"I normally buy my lottery tickets there, both lotto and scratch tickets. I won $700 on a scratch ticket about a year ago so this win here is my biggest yet," said Stuart.
It was at the same convenience store that Stuart learned he was a big winner.
"I checked my Wild Card ticket on the ticket checker and it said I had to claim it at the Lottery. So I had the clerk print me out the winning numbers so I could check them again," he said.
Stuart's job keeps him on the road and out of town most of the week so it took him several days to claim his $6,000 windfall. While he has no set plans on what to do with the winnings, for now the money is headed to the bank.
Wild Card 2 is played only in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. The jackpot currently sits at $255,000 for the next drawing on Saturday, June 21, 2014.
