(Pierre) - Bill Collins of Spearfish is the 82nd Dakota Cash jackpot winner in the game’s history. He and his wife Joyce claimed their $60,211 jackpot prize at the Lottery office in Pierre on Thursday.
Collins checked his numbers on Tuesday afternoon after he got home from loading hay. He discovered he’d won, but waited until Wednesday morning to tell his wife when she returned from out of town.
"I thought he was kidding until he showed me the numbers," Joyce said. Bill said he was just hoping the numbers were right. "My heart was thumpin’ a little," he said.
Collins says he regularly plays Dakota Cash and Powerball. He bought his "quick pick" ticket at the Mini Mart in Spearfish. The store will receive a $3,010 bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.
Dakota Cash is South Dakota’s very own lotto game, and is played only in South Dakota.
