Custer Man Claims $354,838 Wild Card 2 Jackpot

For Immediate Release: 11/20/2003

(Pierre) - George Nelson Wolf of Custer is the winner of the 9th largest jackpot in South Dakota Lottery history. Wolf won the $354,838 Wild Card 2 lotto jackpot in the October 25, 2003 drawing. He claimed his prize yesterday afternoon at the Rapid City Lottery office.

After returning from Mexico, where he was visiting friends, Wolf discovered he held the winning ticket Monday while having his lotto tickets checked in Rapid City. "I’m still thinking in Spanish," he said. Then, he said in Spanish, "I have a lot of butterflies in my stomach."

Wolf said he had a "to do" list on his refrigerator, and the list included "win the Wild Card jackpot." Crossing that off the list was the first thing he was going to do when he got home. After that, the 71-year-old plans to put his winnings to good use. "I’m hoping this win helps me to help others," he said.

Lynne’s Dakotamart in Custer will receive a $3,548 bonus for selling the winning "quick pick" ticket.

Wolf is the third South Dakota Lottery player to win the Wild Card 2 jackpot. Wayne Lemme of Madison won $856,298 in December, 2002 and Joseph Toman of Mitchell won $332,280 in January, 2002

Wild Card 2 is played in South Dakota, Montana, and Idaho. Players pick five numbers from 1 to 31 and a face card, and get two plays for $1.
