Eldon Peterson of Pierre claimed $174,358 with his winning Dakota Cash ticket from last Wednesday's drawing.
Peterson was waiting in line to check his tickets at Dakota Mart in Pierre when he discovered that his numbers matched all those posted on the lotto terminal. Peterson consulted his brother, who is the store's manager, and asked how much the jackpot was worth. "At first he thought the ticket was only worth $20,000 because that's what the next jackpot was," said Peterson, who purchased his ticket at Sutley's in Ft. Pierre. "When we figured out how much it was really worth, I got a little excited."
Peterson is the 78th player to win the Dakota Cash games' top prize. The prize had not been hit since April, causing the jackpot to roll up to the sixth highest level in the game's history.
