Sioux Falls Man Claims $10,000 Powerball Prize

For Immediate Release: 4/12/2010

(PIERRE) - Larry Schmidt of Sioux Falls today claimed his $10,000 Powerball prize from the April 10, 2010 drawing. Schmidt matched four of five numbers and the Powerball to win the game's third prize.

Schmidt purchased his Quick Pick ticket at Casey's General Store on North Kiwanis in Sioux Falls. He and his wife, Debora, usually purchase two Powerball tickets for each drawing. Although Schmidt knew from checking his numbers on-line that he was a winner, he decided to play it cool until he came in to the Sioux Falls Lottery office April 12, 2010 to claim his prize.

"I tried not to get too excited until I had the check (from the Lottery) in my hand," Schmidt said.

Schmidt plans to use the $10,000 to pay some bills and purchase a new computer.

Schmidt was one of two lucky Sioux Falls winners from the April 10, 2010 Powerball drawing. A $200,000 winner was also sold in Sioux Falls but as yet, no one has stepped forward to claim that prize.

Powerball is played in 41 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
