A couple from Wilton, NY and a Purling, NY man have claimed Powerball jackpots from the Dec. 25, 2010 and Jan. 22, 2011 drawings. The three winners were announced at a Feb. 11, 2011 press conference held by the New York Lottery in Albany, NY.
Jeffrey and Christine Pintuff of Wilton claimed the $48.8 million prize from the Christmas Day Powerball drawing. The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at a Stewart's Shop in Wilton. The couple elected to take a one-time, lump-sum payment which amounted to $16.4 million after taxes. They plan to use some of their winnings to purchase a new vehicle and take a vacation.
Stephen Kirwan of Purling claimed the $122.1 million jackpot from the Jan. 22, 2011 drawing. He purchased his ticket at the Clothespin Laundromat in Catskill. Kirwan also chose the one-time, lump-sum payment, collecting $40.4 million. He plans to use part of the prize money to take his family on a cruise.
The Pintuffs and Kirwan are the first Powerball jackpot winners in New York. The game is played in 42 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Washington, D.C.
