A group of state workers now known as the "Albany 7" on March 31, 2011 claimed their $319 million Mega Millions jackpot from the March 25, 2011 drawing.
The co-workers, three women and four men, work as IT specialists and program managers for the New York Division of Housing and Community Renewal and live in the suburbs of Albany, New York. The group has been pooling their money for years to win a lottery jackpot, each throwing in $2 when the jackpots reach the $100 million mark. The lucky Quick Pick ticket was purchased at a convenience store near their office.
Each member of the "Albany 7" will receive $19.1 million dollars after taxes. Members of the group are Mike Barth, 63, John Hilton, 57, Gabrielle Maher, 29, John Kutey, 54, Tracy Sussman, 41, Kristin Baldwin, 42, and Leon Peck, 62.
The jackpot was the fifth-largest in Mega Millions history. The Mega Millions jackpot currently sits at $19 million for the next drawing on April 1, 2011.
