A single ticket sold in Michigan hit the $27 million jackpot in the May 13, 2011 Mega Millions drawing.
The lucky ticket holder matched five of five white ball numbers and the Mega Ball to take the game's top prize. Winning numbers were 3, 33, 39, 47 and 53; the Mega Ball was 9. The odds of hitting the jackpot playing Mega Millions are 1:175,711,536. The winner has the option of taking their prize as 26 annual annuity payments or in a single lump sum cash payment of about $17.3 million.
Seven tickets - one each in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio and Wisconsin - are worth $250,000 each for matching all five white ball numbers but not the Mega Ball. Two ticket holders, one each in Indiana and Wisconsin, matched five of five white ball numbers but not the Mega Ball and purchased the Megaplier option, making their tickets worth $1 million.
Mega Millions is played in 41 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The jackpot currently sits at $12 million for the next drawing on Tues., May 17, 2011.
