Minnesota Couple Claims $228.9 Million Powerball Jackpot

Thomas and Kathleen Morris of Burnsville, MN have claimed their $228.9 million Powerball jackpot from the Aug. 10, 2011 drawing. Thomas Morris purchased the winning ticket at a SuperAmerica convenience store in Lakeville, MN. The couple, who have been married for nearly 40 years and have two grown children and one grandchild, are considering retirement. They have yet to decide whether to take a lump sum of nearly $124 million or have it paid out over 30 years. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1:195,249,054.

The Powerball jackpot currently sits at $25 million for the next drawing on Wed., Aug. 17, 2011. The game is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
