(Pierre) – Increasing ticket sales for the March 30, 2012 Mega Millions drawing have prompted the group that oversees the game to raise the estimated jackpot again from $500 million to $540 million annuity. According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, that puts the cash jackpot at $389.8 million. Both amounts are world records.
The previous world record was a $390 million Mega Millions jackpot drawn on March 6, 2007 which was split between winners in Georgia and New Jersey. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1:175,711,536.
Mega Millions tickets can be purchased at any Lottery retailer until 9:00 p.m. CT/8:00 p.m. MT the night of the drawing. South Dakota Lottery officials remind those purchasing tickets to please play responsibly.
Mega Millions is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
