(PIERRE, SD) – Since 1987, thirty-four South Dakotans have helped to shape the future of the South Dakota Lottery through their service on the South Dakota Lottery Commission. As the agency approaches its 25th anniversary on September 30, 2012, Lottery officials are recognizing them for their efforts.
The seven-member commission is appointed by the Governor and establishes policy; reviews and approves major contracts and procurements; and consults on management and operation of all aspects of the Lottery. Lottery executive director Norm Lingle says the agency has benefitted from the diversity of the individuals selected to serve on the Commission.
“Our commissioners have come from large and small communities in all parts of the state, and have had a wide variety of experience and expertise in business, finance and government. Because each member who served brought their own unique ideas and questions to the table, we’ve been able to maintain a well-rounded Commission over the last 25 years,” Lingle said.
Lottery Commission members are appointed to three-year terms and may not serve more than two terms consecutively. A complete listing of commissioners being honored can be found at http://lottery.sd.gov/events/documents/091712LotteryRecognizesCommissioners.pdf
