Telephone scam targeting South Dakotans
The South Dakota Lottery has been made aware of a scam targeting South Dakotans.
The scam involves an unsolicited phone call from a person claiming to be affiliated with the South Dakota Lottery. In some instances, the scammers have disguised their phone numbers to make the call appear to come from the Lottery.
The scammer notes that a player has won a Mega Millions jackpot and proceeds to ask citizens for personal information.
If a South Dakotan receives a similar phone call, it is important that they do not share any of their personal information. Neither the South Dakota Lottery nor Mega Millions conducts phone calls to notify players of jackpot wins.
If you believe you have been the victim of this scam, the Lottery advises South Dakotans to contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Office at 800-300-1986 or by email at consumerhelp@state.sd.us.
If you question the legitimacy of any correspondence with the South Dakota Lottery, contact us by phone at 605-773-5770 or by email at lottery@state.sd.gov.
