Deadline to claim $500,000 Powerball prize approaching

Less than three weeks remain for a South Dakota Lottery player to claim a $500,000 prize.

A $500,000 Powerball Double Play prize from the Aug. 27, 2025, drawing remains unclaimed. The winning ticket was purchased at Hy Vee Gas, located on 5201 W. 26th St. in Sioux Falls. The winning player has until Feb. 23, 2026, to claim the prize.

The player matched 5 of 5 winning numbers in the Double Play drawing and was just the Double Play Powerball away from winning $10 million top prize.

Hy Vee Gas will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, but only if the prize is claimed.

All lotto prizes must be claimed within 180 days after the date of the drawing in which the prize was won. If prizes are not claimed, they are distributed to the South Dakota Lottery’s Unclaimed Prize Fund, which helps fund prizes for future games.

The South Dakota Lottery advises the winning players to sign the backs of their tickets immediately before claiming their prize at any Lottery validation center. The Sioux Falls validation center is at 3605 S. Western Ave.

The $500,000 prize isn’t the only large Powerball prize making headlines. On Jan. 27, a $2 million Powerball prize was claimed. The winner chose to remain anonymous.

The $2 million prize, which was the result of the Aug. 23, 2025, Powerball draw, was purchased at Lucky’s Gas N More in Mobridge. The selling retailer received a $25,000 bonus after the prize was claimed.
